An Inter-Generational Concert Featuring 3 Teen & 2 Veteran Vocalists

Five outstanding Twin Cities vocalists spanning several generations are featured in “Through the Ages,” a unique concert blending the perspectives of youth and experience.
With music direction by JD Steele, “Through the Ages” features the teen singers -- Elsa Dungan-Hawks (15), Charles Foster (11), and Will Olson (15) -- and the veteran vocalists Fred Steele and JD Steele.
Noted baritone Fred Steele has appeared on major stages in the Twin Cities and nationally. Tonight he leads an A-list band as the ensemble delivers a stirring mix of jazz standards, soul, gospel, early rock ‘n roll and contemporary pop.

Elsa Dungan-Hawks is a veteran of three Children’s Theatre Company productions and one Guthrie production. Will Olson and Charles Foster are both members of the MacPhail Community Youth Choir.

The celebrated singer-songwriter and conductor JD Steele composes for the theater (notably the Guthrie Theater, Ten Thousand Things Theater, History Theatre and Mixed Blood), and leads the MacPhail Community Youth Choir, Mill City Singers and Capri Glee! the adult community choir. He and his brother Fred also appeared in the legendary Broadway production of “Gospel at Colonus” with Morgan Freeman. He founded and leads a youth choir at an orphanage in Nairobi Kenya, called Shangilia, and he is on the faculty of The Guthrie Theater’s Guthrie Experience for Actors in Training.

“Through the Ages” is produced by the Cultural Fluency Initiative, a Minnesota non-profit that promotes cross-group communication and collaboration.
